In exactly seven weeks from today, we are moving to Houston! I am so excited, yall. I mean like I am already looking for end of the summer activities to do our first week there. We have almost everything taken care of as far as preparations, and are just counting down the days now. In the meantime, I am looking forward to making more memories with the time we have left here in Columbus, OH. We have friends coming into town in a few weeks, cookouts to enjoy, a farewell party to host, festivals to attend, so it is going to be a fun filled summer going forward. I know what you are thinking. We still have a few more weeks of spring left and I am talking about summer. Well, I am starting the summer early! We have been grilling out almost every day and swimming in our pool. (To be clear, he tackles the grill while I enjoy the pool).
Anyhow, I love the summer time. When I think of summer I picture crop tops and flowy skirts. Sun roofs and loud music. Cookouts and tequila shots. Rooftop parties and patio dinners. It’s a time of carefree happiness. Well, at least since I don’t have class this summer. And I am going to enjoy every part of it.
As I anticipate all of what’s to come this summer, I wanted to share with you the top five reasons why I love the summer as much as I do!
- Open Patios
Whether it’s a restaurant, bar, or club, it’s always better outside right? The natural lighting makes you feel like you’re a professional photographer taking pictures of your squad. The cool breeze blows in your hair reminding you that your twist out, blow out, or however you have your hair that day is on point! People walk by looking at your plate of deliciousness, but you’re eating it so you feel like a boss! Just me? Oh. Or what about being able to view the sunset as you’re sipping a strawberry mango margarita at your favorite Mexican restaurant. I live for these days!
- Fruit and Veggies
Sometimes I just want a sweet and juicy piece of watermelon. No, I want that all the time, but the best time to enjoy said fruit is the summer summer summer time! (Can you ever go through summer without thinking about that song at least once?) In my opinion, it seems like so many fruits and vegetables are better in the summer. Some of my favs are: zucchini, squash, asparagus, corn, bell peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, peaches, and watermelon.
- Festival Season
OK, so Columbus has a festival or four like every weekend. And festival season is not just big here. Across the nation are different festivals to celebrate music, culture, love, expression, education, health, etc. There are festivals other times in the year but summer festivals are the ones that you can enjoy for hours because the weather is so A-MA-ZING! It may just be me but I rarely go out from the end of November until late March.
- Longer days
This has been one of my favorite parts of the summer since I was a kid. You can have such fun filled days in the summer. The sun does not set until close to 9. And just because the sun goes down does not mean the party is over. There’s so much time! You can drink wine by the pool with your tribe, reminiscing and debating. You can have a late dinner at the park with your guy/gal. Cookouts last all day and get togethers last all night. Summer nights are when memories are made.
How many of you knew this was number one on my list? Yall, people search for reasons to have cookouts in the summer. I mean it’s not just your typical Memorial Day, Fourth of July, birthday cookouts. People have cookouts to begin the summer, mid-summer, end of the summer, because it’s not raining, because they got off work early, because the grocery store had a sale. But, I am nonetheless here for it all. Be as extra as you want, as long as I am invited, ok? I’ll even bring a side dish and a bottle of Jose.
